Google AdWords Ad Sitelinks Feature Debuts

Wednesday, 4 November 2009 14:20 by FrankSalvatore

The Google AdWords Blog announced today that it is introducing a feature called "Ad Sitelinks". Instead of showing a normal text ad - some advertisers will now have the opportunity to have up to ten links to areas within their website. An example of one of these ads is shown below. I searched for "North Face" and as you can see below, the North Face ad which was returned looks quite a bit different. The title and ad content look to be the same as a typical AdWords ad. The difference is that the url appears directly below the title - and there are four links to areas within the North Face website. These ad sitelinks will only appear for the top ranked ad - and only in certain circumstances.

Who Gets AdWords Sitelink Feature?

In the blog post, it mentions that the option for these multiple sitelinks in your AdWords ads will "only appear for advertisers whose ads meet a certain high quality threshold". This typically vague explanation by Google requires some additional research. These advertisers that have the ability to use these sitelink ads would seemingly have a huge edge over their competition. The ads appear much larger than typical ads and have multiple links. They are bound to attract more attention and as a result get more clicks. If you have the option to use thse ad sitelinks in your AdWords account, I would recommend that you start participating immediately.

How Does this Help Me Market My Denver Small Business?

Unless your business qualifies in Google's eyes as an advertiser whose ads meet a certain high quality threshold, it won't help your business. If you do see this option available within your AdWords account, you may wish to participate immediately. The risks are that you'd have to have a high enough of a quality score and bid to get your ad into the top position to take advantage of ad sitelinks. The advantages are an ad that is a very high profile top ranked ad that is likely go get you a lot of clicks. If you plan on going down this road, you'll probably want to check out Google's help page for AdWords Ad Sitelinks.
